Mental Health Check-In for Black Women Who Voted for the Right Side of History

Hey there, boss girlie ! ✨

I want to take a moment to check in with you. I know things have been heavy lately, especially after the whirlwind of the 2024 election. But sis, let me tell you something — you showed up! And that right there is worth celebrating. You cast your vote for what is right, for justice, for the future, and for everyone who deserves to be treated with love and dignity.

But now, it’s time for YOU to show up for YOU. Because in all that you’ve done, in all that you’ve carried, there’s one thing I want you to remember: Self-love is the highest form of self-respect, and it starts with you taking care of YOU. 💖

Take a Moment to Breathe, Sis.

You’ve been out here doing the work, pushing for change, and voting for human rights. That takes strength, that takes courage, and that takes resilience. But just because you’re strong doesn’t mean you don’t deserve rest. Take a deep breath with me right now. Close your eyes, inhale slowly, and exhale all the stress from your body. I want you to remember this:

You are worthy of peace, and you are deserving of rest.

As a Black woman, you carry so much. We are often the ones holding the weight of the world on our shoulders, lifting up our families, our communities, and our futures. But even in that, you deserve the space to breathe. Don’t forget that.

How Are You REALLY Feeling?

Now, let me ask you, how are you really feeling? I want you to check in with yourself right now. How’s your heart? Are you carrying some worry? Some fatigue? Are you feeling proud of yourself? Maybe a little bit of everything?

It’s okay to feel a whole mix of emotions. It's normal to feel heavy, and it’s also okay to feel joy in the small victories. All of your feelings are valid, and all of you is worthy of care.

You Deserve Rest and Renewal

I know we’re out here fighting for what’s right, but in the process, don’t forget to fight for your peace. This world needs you, yes, but it needs a whole you, a you that is rested, nurtured, and full of energy. Here’s what I want you to do to give yourself some love:

  1. Find a quiet space. Whether it’s in the comfort of your own home or outside in nature, just take a moment of stillness. No phones, no distractions—just you and your breath.
  2. Give yourself some grace, sis. You don’t have to do it all. Life is going to keep moving, but you get to decide when to take a break. Just like how we say, “It’s okay to not be okay,” it’s also okay to say, “I’m taking a break for me.”
  3. Treat yourself with kindness. You’re out here voting for change, standing up for justice. But now it’s time for YOU to stand up for yourself. Be gentle. Talk to yourself like you would talk to your best friend—encouraging, loving, and patient.
  4. Celebrate the victories. Whether you cast your vote in person, supported your community, or just stayed engaged in the fight for change, celebrate what you’ve accomplished. You’re part of a movement that’s bigger than you, and that’s something to be proud of.

Your Mental Health is Just as Important as the Cause

As a Black woman, it’s so easy to get caught up in the fight and forget to check in with ourselves. But your mental health is just as important as the change you’re striving for. Remember, we can’t pour from an empty cup. So, let’s refill ourselves with love, peace, and care.

Take time for the little things—those small acts of self-care that make a big difference. It might be a warm cup of tea, a good book, or even a walk outside to clear your head. Whatever it is, make it about YOU. Because YOU matter.

Sister, You Are Powerful

No matter what happens, you are powerful. Your vote, your voice, your presence—it all matters. You are a part of something greater than yourself, and your strength is unmatched. But in order to keep going, in order to keep fighting for the right side of history, you have to take care of yourself. So, sis, remember:

  • You are enough.
  • You are deserving of love and rest.
  • Your mental health matters just as much as your activism.

Now take a deep breath, feel your strength, and know that you are loved—by me, by your community, and by yourself.

You’ve got this, sis. And you always will. 💖
